How to Take Care of             Yourself in Summer

Summer’s fun, but heat + sun can drain you fast. Here’s how to stay cool, healthy, and energized:

How to Take Care of Yourself in Summer

*1. Hydrate like it’s your job*

- Water first :

Aim for 8-12 glasses/day. You lose more through sweat. Keep a bottle with you.

- Electrolytes matter:

If you’re sweating a lot, add ORS, coconut water, or a pinch of salt + lemon to water.

- Skip dehydration traps:

Cut back on too much caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks. They pull water out.

*2. Protect your skin + eyes*

- Sunscreen daily:

SPF 30+ broad spectrum, even on cloudy days. Reapply every 2-3 hours if outside.

- Cover up:

Light, loose cotton/linen clothes. Long sleeves + wide-brim hat = natural shade.

- Sunglasses:

UV400 protection. Your eyes get sunburn too.

- After-sun care:

Aloe vera or moisturizer if skin feels tight/burned.

*3. Time your activities smart*

- Avoid peak heat:

12pm-4pm is hottest. Do walks, workouts, errands in early morning or after 5pm.

- Listen to your body:

Dizziness, headache, nausea = heat exhaustion signs. Get to shade, sip water, cool your neck/wrists.

*4. Eat to beat the heat*

- Water-rich foods:

Watermelon, cucumber, oranges, tomatoes, yogurt. They hydrate + give vitamins.

- Light meals:

Heavy, fried food makes you sluggish. Go for salads, dal, grilled fish/chicken, curd rice.

- Food safety:

Heat spoils food faster. Store leftovers in fridge and reheat properly.

*5. Keep your body cool*

- Cool showers:

Lukewarm is better than ice-cold. It helps regulate temp without shocking your system.

- Cooling points:

Wet cloth on neck, wrists, forehead gives instant relief.

- Fan/AC balance:

If using AC, keep it 24-26°C. Big temp jumps between outside + room = headaches.

*6. Sleep + mood care*

- Dark + cool room:

Blackout curtains + fan/AC helps you sleep deeper. Heat messes with sleep quality.

- Lighten your load:

Heat makes everyone irritable. Build in rest time and don’t over-schedule.

- Move, but gently:

Walk, swim, yoga instead of intense midday workouts.

Quick summer survival kit:

Water bottle, SPF 30+ sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, wet wipes, lip balm with SPF.

Summer should feel good, not draining. Pick 2-3 of these to start this week and build from there.
